I guess, that  Japaneze, Korean may require the same feature.

An i can imagine ever more nontrivial spacing issues:
1. some scripts has modifying characters (Devanagari, Tibetian).
2. Arabic letters are connected inside word (but spaced at word edges)

I'd prefer to leave it for future.
Although, supertux already has Nepali localization with usage of 
modifying chars.
