For starters---thank you, Marek Moeckel, for sharing that. I enjoyed it.
I think Super Tux is one of those "less than a handful" of great games. It's not a supermario clone...it's just that supermario generally defines platform games, so any similarity is because supermario was pretty much "the" platform game. Super Tux is advancing, and breaking away from the Mario traditions.
It being open source is my favorite thing about the game. And even though I'd support it always being free, I would have to contradict the author in that the game *could* be sold.
I have more to say along these lines but nothing else worth hearing. I'll conclude with...since Super Tux is open source, I can (and hopefully will) contribute.

Hi all,
here's an interesting article from the CEO of Linux Game Publishing
about open and closed source games on Linux.
http://blog.linuxgamepublishing.com/2009/06/29/a-closed-source-companys-ceos-view-on-open-source/
Excerpt:
You can see large numbers of small games for Linux. Games made by one or
maybe two people. You can find a large number of clones of commercial
games. These are all easy to find developers for, they all want to play
the game they used to play, but on Linux.
But original, new, high quality games on Linux, well, there are less
than a handful, and none of them would get shelf space in a commercial
store They may be technically great, they may be a marvel of
collaboration, but they probably wouldn?t sell copies to the random
public, and those are the people that Linux needs to target to become
more mainstream.
Enjoy!
Marek
